Submit Your NYC Kindergarten Application by January 21

Time is running out!

From now until Friday, January 21, 2022, families with children born in 2017 can participate in this year’s kindergarten admissions process and apply for fall 2022 admission to kindergarten at City public elementary schools (Grades K–5). Every five-year-old City resident is guaranteed a seat in an NYC public school kindergarten program.

Families can use MySchools to explore their elementary school options, save their favorites, and submit their applications. Don’t worry if you do not have a MySchools account—it’s easy to create one and get started!

Who can apply for kindergarten this year?

All City families with children born in 2017 (who will turn five in 2022), including:

• Children new to NYC public schools;

• Current Pre-K students (Pre-K Centers, NYC Early Education Centers, district, charter, private, and parochial schools);

• Students who move to the City during the admissions process;

• Students with disabilities;

• Multilingual learners;

• Students in temporary housing; and

• LGBTQ and gender-noncomforming students.

Need an elementary school seat for your child now?

If you just recently moved into New York City and would like to place your child into a New York City public elementary school, enter your home address on our School Search website to learn if your child has a zoned school nearby. Once you’ve identified your child’s zoned school, contact that school directly to enroll your child. If you do not have a zoned school for your home address, contact or visit a Family Welcome Center for help finding a school for your child.
