It’s time to add “learning” to your child’s summer plans.

Summer Rising, the New York City’s free summer learning program for students in grades K–8, is now open for registration!

Available citywide, Summer Rising provides City students with full day, in-person learning experiences that mix academics, the arts, and outdoor activities all season long! Organized and run by City school principals and trusted community-based organizations, Summer Rising allows students to boost their outcomes in the classroom while participating in fun activities, including field trips to local parks, zoos, and other outdoor venues.

All Summer Rising programs will be held in safe and supportive environments with staff members who are prepared to respond to children’s social and emotional needs. In addition, breakfast and lunch will be served to each student.

Generally, Summer Rising programs will run for six weeks from July 5–August 12, 2022—students in grades K–5 will then have an additional seventh week of enrichment activities and trips. Check out our Summer Rising webpage for more calendar and scheduling details.

Enrolling in Summer Rising

This year, any current NYC student in grades K–8 can be placed into Summer Rising through the City’s official enrollment website. Once logged in, you will be able to enroll at any Summer Rising location with seats available for your child’s grade band (K–5 or 6–8). Note that families can only apply for one program site on their application—so please be sure to choose your child’s Summer Rising site carefully!

The Summer Rising application is available online in 10 languages, and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Attending a charter school? Note that charter school families can also enroll in Summer Boost NYCa new summer learning initiative focused on supporting charter school families. These families may enroll in either Summer Rising or Summer Boost NYC programming, but not both.
