If you or a student in your household is planning to attend a New York City public middle or high school next year, time is running out to submit an application for fall 2023 admissions!

From now through the end of the day on Monday, December 5, 2022, New York City families with students who are either in their last year of elementary school (grade 5) or are in eighth grade (or ninth grade for the first time) can apply for fall 2023 admission to the City’s middle or high schools, respectively.

All current NYC residents who are in a qualifying transitional grade (fifth grade or eighth/first-time ninth grade) can apply for the City’s middle or high schools, including:

  • Current public school students (district or charter schools)
  • Private or parochial school students
  • Students with disabilities and/or accessibility needs;
  • Multilingual learners;
  • Homeschooled students;
  • Students from immigrant families;
  • Residents in temporary housing;
  • LGBTQ and gender nonconforming students; and
  • Students with children.

Please note that if you or your student(s) is planning on attending any of the City’s public middle or high school options, please understand that participating in this application process will provide them with their best chance at getting into their program of choice.

You can submit your 2023 application in one of three ways:

Students who attend private, independent, or parochial schools can visit a Family Welcome Center to submit their applications or to receive a welcome letter with a MySchools account creation code.

Need to submit additional materials with your application?

Some school programs have additional requirements, such as auditions, essays, interviews, or assessments, to help determine admissions. Check the “Selection Criteria” section under each school program’s MySchools page to see whether the programs you’re applying to have additional admissions requirements.

If you need to submit additional materials for your application, the deadline to submit them is Friday, December 9. Note that you will still need to submit your main application by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, December 5. Visit our Auditions page or our Assessments for Screened Schools page for further details.
