NYC Schools Calendar — January 2021
Blended and Remote Learning resumes.
5:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
Virtual office hour sessions for families seeking support for students with disabilities transitioning into adult/postsecondary programs.
5:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.
Optional virtual workshop for Spanish-speaking students and families seeking ways to strengthen remote learning at home. Hosted by the NYC Department of Education in partnership with Ramapo for Children.

2021 Big Apple Awards
Know a great educator? City students, families, community members, and other school staff members can recognize exemplary City educators with online nominations for the 2021 Big Apple Awards! But hurry—the nomination period ends on January 10, 2021!
Kindergarten Admissions
From now until January 22, 2021, families with children who will turn five years old in 2021 can apply for fall 2021 admission to kindergarten at City public elementary schools (Grades K–5). Learn more about kindergarten admissions right here on The Morning Bell, or participate in any of this month’s Elementary Admissions Events.
Middle School Admissions
NYC’s middle school application for students entering middle school in fall 2021 will open during the week of January 11, 2021. To learn more, check out the DOE’s Middle School Admissions page, and get ready for the application by creating a MySchools account.
High School Admissions
Beginning the week of January 18, 2021, students seeking admission to NYC high schools for fall 2021 can begin applying on MySchools. Learn more about the NYC high school admissions process by checking out our High School Admissions page.
Interested in applying for one of the City’s Specialized High Schools? Register for the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) by the DOE’s new deadline on January 28, 2021—testing will begin on January 27, 2021. Students/families who registered for the SHSAT after the DOE’s initial deadline on January 15 will be assigned later testing dates. Students interested in applying to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts do not have to register for the SHSAT, and instead, will have to register for an audition by February 23, 2021.
