Now that the new year is here and schools are back in session following Winter Recess, it’s time to check out what’s going on in New York City’s public schools in January 2019, courtesy of the DOE’s official Schools Calendar:

January 2019
Tuesday, January 1 New Year’s Day
All NYC public schools closed.
Wednesday, January 2 Winter Recess ends
All NYC public schools reopen.
Friday, January 11 College Awareness Day
Be a part of the DOE’s celebration of college attendance (All schools open)!
Monday, January 14 Deadline for Kindergarten Applications for 2019–20 Admissions

Monday, January 21 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
All NYC public schools closed.
Tues., Jan. 22– Fri., Jan. 25 New York State Regents Exams
Please refer to the State’s official exam schedule for more details.
Monday, January 28 Chancellor’s Conference Day
No classes for high school students, except those enrolled in District 75 programs.
Tuesday, January 29 Spring term begins
For NYC high school students only.

Kindergarten Applications

  • Families with children born in 2014 can apply for fall 2019 admissions to kindergarten programs across the five boroughs. To apply, please visit MySchools and submit your application by Monday, January 14, 2019! For more information about applying to kindergarten, visit our Kindergarten Admissions page.

 

New York State Regents Exams (January 22–January 25)
