It seems like we all say the same thing around this time of the year, but seriously folks…

“Wasn’t it March like two weeks ago?”

So with less than a month left before the start of 2019, let us all cherish the last days we’ll spend writing “2018,” and let’s check out what’s going in New York City’s public schools in December 2018, courtesy of the DOE’s official Schools Calendar:

Some quick notes about this month’s schedule:

Kindergarten Admissions

  • On Wednesday, December 5, families with children born in 2014 can begin applying for admissions kindergarten programs across the five boroughs. This year, parents can explore elementary schools, identify program choices, and apply for their preferred programs right on the DOE’s MySchools website. For more information, visit the DOE’s Kindergarten Admissions page.

Middle School Admissions

  • NYC families with students who are currently in fifth grade (or in sixth grade in a K–6 elementary school) have until Friday, December 14 to complete and submit a DOE middle schools application for the 2019–20 school year. For more information, visit the DOE’s Middle School Admissions page, and apply online on the DOE’s MySchools website.

High School Admissions

  • Current eighth graders (or first-time ninth graders) have until Friday, December 14 to participate in Round 1 of the City’s high school application process for the 2019–20 school year. Use the DOE’s NYC High School Directory to make your program selections, and log into MySchools to complete and submit your application.
  • Participating in Round 1 and applying to 12 programs makes it more likely that you will get an offer to a program of your choice, so be sure to complete and submit your high school applications by Friday, December 14! For more information, visit the DOE’s High School Admissions website or speak to your school counselor for details.

That’s all for this month. We hope you all have a great December; enjoy the last month of 2018, everyone!
