We are excited to announce that for the fourth year in a row, New York City public schools will be celebrating College Awareness Day on Friday, January 11, 2019.

College Awareness Day is the DOE’s citywide celebration of college attendance and the opportunities that a college education can bring to students and their families. It is a day dedicated to helping students and families realize that college and other postsecondary programs can help make their dreams possible.

This year’s theme for College Awareness Day is “Best of the Boros: College Access Edition,” and throughout the day, many schools will lead in-class discussions with students, host alumni events, provide early college awareness workshops for students and families, and more.

Thanks to the DOE’s College Access for All – Middle School initiative, over 40,000 City students will tour a college campus this year

To show support for College Awareness Day, we’re asking parents, staff members, older students, City schools alumni, and others to consider wearing apparel from your former/favorite colleges throughout the day on January 11. We also encourage everyone to join the conversation online by using the tag, #CollegeAwarenessDay, on social media.

College Awareness Day is supported by the DOE’s College Access for All – Middle School initiative, which aims to empower and support middle schoolers’ dreams of going to and succeeding in college.

To learn more about how your local middle school will celebrate the College Awareness Day, please contact your school’s parent coordinator. You may also email nyccollegeaccessms@schools.nyc.gov to learn more about College Awareness Day or the College Access for All: Middle School initiative.

See you on January 11, 2019!
