From October 22–26, 2018, high schools across New York City are celebrating College Application Week, New York State’s weeklong effort to support students and their families as they plan for life after high school.

CAWThis year, a record 467 City high schools are participating in College Application Week 2018. Now, more City students than ever are participating in a range of school-based activities throughout the week, including “why college” workshops, college application “marathons,” financial aid application sessions, college campus visits, and alumni panels that provide current students with great information about life after college.

“As a first-generation college student, I came from a family that understood the importance of going to college but didn’t know about the college application and financial aid process,” said Chancellor Richard Carranza when announcing this year’s event. “Through College Application Week and College Access for All, we are giving students the knowledge and resources they need to get to college and succeed there. We are putting our New York City students on the path to college and careers.”

The 467 schools that are celebrating College Application Week this year include 123 in the Bronx, 141 in Brooklyn, 107 in Manhattan, 83 in Queens, and 13 on Staten Island.

College Application Week is part of the DOE’s College Access for All initiative, which aims to provide every City middle and high school with the resources and supports needed to prepare students for college and careers. Through College Access for All, more students will be able to understand how to apply and pay for college, prepare for SATs, and choose their college and career pathways.

On behalf of the DOE, we wish our students success with their college applications!
