As we look ahead to October 2018, we see that the 2018–19 school year is really kicking into high gear for New York City’s public schools.

This month, school communities and families are preparing for elementary, middle, and high school admissions, Columbus Day weekend, and college applications, among others. School communities will also continue to celebrate the rest of National Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month and usher in the start of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Throughout October and November, the DOE will host admissions events across the City to provide families with opportunities to learn more about the City’s elementary (including 3-K, pre-k, and G&T), middle, and high school admissions processes. Learn more about each of these events, including dates, locations, and times, by checking out the following webpages:

Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) and LaGuardia H.S. Auditions

Students who are interested in auditioning for a seat at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts or would like to take the SHSAT should speak to their school counselor by Thursday, October 11.

To learn more about the City’s Specialized High Schools (including LaGuardia) and the SHSAT, check out the DOE’s SHSAT handbook and attend our open houses throughout October.

That’s all for this month. We hope you have a great October!
