And they’re off!
All 66,756 students whose families applied for pre-k programs for fall 2018 by the March 30 deadline are receiving their seat offers today (May 9).
“Tens of thousands of families will begin their education careers this fall in free, full-day, high-quality pre-k programs,” announced Chancellor Richard Carranza. “Through Pre-K for All, students develop vocabulary skills, make friends, and build lasting foundations for kindergarten and beyond. A strong early education is transformative for families and is key to our Equity and Excellence agenda. We are leveling the playing field for all families, including our immigrant population, and are empowering parents to set their child on the pathway to success.”
We are also happy to report that a record number of City families are receiving offers for their preferred pre-k program choices. This year, 75% of City families will receive an offer to their top choice, and 88% of families will receive offers to one of their top three choices.
Families who submit (or have submitted) their pre-k applications after the March 30 deadline are placed on waitlists for all programs listed on their applications. These families will eventually be contacted by Pre-K Outreach Team specialists over the next several weeks to guide them through all available options.
Remember: every child born in 2014 who lives in New York City is eligible to apply and attend pre-k in fall 2018. Families who are still interested in placing their eligible children into a City pre-k program should visit our pre-k website, call (718) 935-2067, or stop by one of our Family Welcome Centers for assistance.
