Congratulations to South Shore's Boys Basketball Team for Capturing Their First PSAL AA Championship!

Talk about “living up to your name.”

South Shore's Destiny Philoxy Led Her Team to a Fourth Straight PSAL AA Championship

South Shore’s senior point guard, Destiny Philoxy (center, #3), has helped lead her team to four straight PSAL championship titles.

On March 18, the Vikings of Brooklyn’s South Shore Educational Campus stormed the Barclays Center and made history by winning both the boys and girls PSAL championship titles in AA Basketball.

The day tipped off with the girls AA championship game, as the Vikings, the three-time defending PSAL AA champions, took on Murry Bergtraum High School. The game was relatively close until the final minutes of the fourth quarter, when the Vikings put Bergtraum away for good, 57–37. South Shore’s senior point guard, Destiny Philoxy, led all scorers with 18 points.

The Lady Vikings’ victory on Sunday sealed their fourth straight PSAL AA basketball championship.

South Shore's Femi Odukale Helped Lead the Vikings to Their First-Ever PSAL AA Basketball Title

Vikings’ junior shooting guard, Femi Odukale (center, #11), was named MVP after leading South Shore with 18 points and 6 rebounds.

Then in the afternoon, South Shore’s boys team took the floor against Benjamin N. Cardozo High School. Led by junior and eventual game MVP, Femi Odukale, and senior, Sekou Sylla, the Vikings knocked the Cardozo Judges on their heels right from the opening tip-off. The Judges tried to muster a comeback in the fourth quarter, but the Vikings’ height and athleticism would prove too much, as South Shore beat Cardozo, 78–66.

The victory gave South Shore’s first-ever PSAL Boys AA Basketball Championship.

Both Vikings teams will now compete in the Federation Tournament of Champions in Glens Falls, NY, where the boys and girls champions of New York State’s four major high school leagues will face each other to determine this year’s State champions.

The tournament will kick off on Friday, March 23, as South Shore’s boys take on the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s (NYSPHSAA) champions, Liverpool High School. Meanwhile, South Shore’s girls will face the Catholic High School Athletic Association’s champions, Christ the King High School.

We wish both teams tremendous success in the Federation Tournament of Champions!
