NYC students: it’s time to take a stand for school wellness!

From now until Monday, March 26, City students in grades K–12 can help promote positive health and wellness practices across the City by participating in the DOE’s ninth annual School Wellness Campaign Contest.

Organized by the DOE’s Office of School Wellness Programs (OSWP), the 2018 School Wellness Campaign Contest provides K–12 students with the opportunity to create, write, and/or design their very own public awareness campaigns in support of physical education, health education, and other school wellness programs.

To participate in the contest, students can submit images, designs, slogans, logos, songs, and messages for posters, buttons, bumper stickers, subway ads, social media campaigns, t-shirts, and more. Each student entry must be submitted by a teacher.

One of Our Winners from the 2017 School Wellness

This poster by Jenny Chen of J.H.S. 220 was one of our winning designs from last year’s contest.

This year, winning students will be awarded with swag bags and free passes to health and fitness opportunities across the City. In addition, students who submit songs, spoken work performances, or videos for the contest can win an opportunity to work with Hip Hop Public Health and professional producers to produce a free track for their song or video.

Participating schools can also win prizes this year; one winner in each grade band (elementary, middle, and high school) will win a free school mural created in partnership with Groundswell, while runners-up can win field trips, t-shirts printed with this year’s winning student designs, student activities sponsored by Appalachian Mountain Club and other partners, and more.

To learn more and enter this year’s contest, each participating student should download and complete our elementary (K–5) or secondary (6–12) entry forms and follow the instructions listed on our contest guidelines.

For more information or questions, contact the Office of School Wellness Programs at wellness@schools.nyc.gov. Also, check out OSWP’s contest webpage to see winning works from prior school years.

Remember: the School Wellness Campaign Contest ends on March 26, so mark your calendars, and submit your designs today!
