New York City’s young library card holders: it is time to say, “Bye Felicia” to your old book fines and late fees.
Thanks to a generous donation by the JPB Foundation, all kids and teens under 18 with a library card from the New York Public Library, the Brooklyn Public Library, or Queens Library have had their library fines (and any fine-related blocks) automatically forgiven.
This one-time amnesty affects all library fines levied before October 19, 2017. In addition to affecting hundreds of thousands of library cardholders under 18, high school students aged 18 and over can also have their fines cleared in person at their local libraries through November 2, 2017.
Going forward, fines will begin accruing again on any items due after October 19, 2017.
