COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK!!

(cue the confetti)

All week long (October 16–20), high schools across the City are celebrating College Application Week, New York State’s week-long effort to support students and families as they plan for life after high school and begin the college application process.

This year, a record 456 City high schools are participating in College Application Week. Now, more students than ever can participate in a range of school-based activities throughout the week, including “why college” workshops, college application “marathons,” financial aid application sessions, college campus visits, and alumni panels that provide current students with great information about life after college.

“500 words to describe myself? I GOT THIS.”

“As the first person in my family to go to college, I understand our responsibility as a school system to give all our kids the awareness and resources they need to go on to college and careers, and that’s why we’re making these investments in College Application Week and College Access for All,” said Chancellor Carmen Fariña as she kicked off the week. “I’m glad to see over 450 schools across all five boroughs joining the effort, and making college a reality for the students they serve.”

The 456 schools that are celebrating College Application Week this year include 126 in the Bronx, 128 in Brooklyn, 106 in Manhattan, 83 in Queens, and 13 on Staten Island.

College Application Week is part of College Access for All, one of the initiatives in the DOE’s Equity and Excellence for All agenda – by 2026, 80 percent of students will graduate high school in four years, and two-thirds of them will be college-ready.
