Sometimes, the best lessons are taught outside the classroom.
During the 2017 Special Olympics Winter World Games that took place in Austria earlier this year between March 18–24, eight students from the private Ethical Culture Fieldston School teamed up with eight students from District 75’s P721M program in the Bronx to represent Team USA in floor hockey.
Together, the student-athletes were able to advance and win enough games against international competition to win the Bronze Medal for third place on behalf of Team USA. But as amazing as those victories and medals are, the Special Olympians from the unified floor hockey team won something even more valuable:
Friendships that can last a lifetime.
In celebration of these wonderful student-athletes, New York’s ABC 7 and ESPN recently profiled Team USA’s unified floor hockey team, and we could not be prouder of our students. Check out ABC 7’s news cast about the team, and join us as we congratulate coaches Joe Stewart (P721M) and Liz Fernandez (Ethical Culture Fieldston School) along with the following students from P721M and Ethical Culture Fieldston School!
