Chancellor Carmen Fariña announced the release of the NYC Department of Education’s
2015-16 Annual Arts in Schools Report, the DOE’s comprehensive snapshot of City schools’ instruction in the arts.

2015-16-arts-in-schools-report-coverSome of the highlights from the report include data demonstrating:

  • An 11-year high in the number of certified arts teachers in City schools;
  • A $30 million increase in spending citywide on arts instruction by schools citywide;
  • Substantial increases in arts programming citywide for English language learners and students with disabilities; and
  • Significant growth in the number of of City schools that offer instruction in multiple types of arts.
