Just in time for this year’s high school enrollment season, searching for high schools just got a whole lot easier.
Introducing NYC School Finder: the DOE’s new online search tool for New York City’s high schools.
With over 400 schools and 700 programs to choose from, it can be a bit of a challenge to find a high school with a program that meets your needs and interests. Now while we have these wonderfully dense (read: GIGANTIC) 2016-17 directories available for the City’s middle schoolers and their families both in print and online in 10 languages, NYC School Finder takes all the information found in those directories and places it in one easy-to-use website that is clean, mobile-friendly, and available in English and Spanish.
Currently in beta, NYC School Finder was designed with students, parents, and guidance counselors in mind. Over time, the DOE will continue to improve NYC School Finder as we receive feedback from users like you. Likewise, support for additional languages will be added as more funding is provided for this tool.
When using NYC School Finder, you can search high schools by school name, program, academic interest and courses, borough, size, extracurricular activity, and more. For example:
- Interested in finding a mid-sized HS in Brooklyn with a journalism program?
- Want to know if that HS you have had your eyes on requires an entrance exam, like the Specialized High Schools?
- Ever wanted to know if your local HS has a swimming pool?
All this information and more is available to you right on NYC School Finder. You can even save a list of the high schools you are interested in right on the site, courtesy of NYC School Finder’s “Favorite” button on the top right of every school page on the site.
